Trigeminal Neuralgia
Book Online

Acupuncture may be able to reduce the pain that is so typical of this condition.

Trigeminal neuralgia refers to nerve pain that is stemming from the 5th cranial nerve. The typical presentation of the disorder is experienced as sudden burning or shock-like facial pain that lasts anywhere from a few seconds to as long as two minutes per episode. These attacks can occur in quick succession and last as long as two hours. The less typical form of the disorder can present as a constant aching, burning, stabbing pain of somewhat lower intensity. A tough condition.

Clinical research is positive about acupuncture's ability to reduce pain, as well as it's safety profile. At Newtown Acupuncture our staff have trained in specific electroacupuncture protocols designed to influence the trigeminal nerve and reduce inflammation. As well as this, we use our traditional diagnostic skills to better understand the whole bodies health and how that could be interplaying with the nerve pain.
